I was reading !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about a 1921 Lincoln and I couldn't stop staring at the engine. Apparently it's a 357 cu in V8 that makes 81 horsepower. It has inboard exhaust manifolds and I have no idea where the carb is but it's just gorgeous. I'm assuming it's very rare but why didn't anyone hot rod these engines? 5.8 litres is a huge amount of displacement for 1921 and the torque must be immense. I love it.

Other engines I want to see in rat rods/hot rods:
Maserati V8
Rolls Royce V8
Jaguar V12
Ford Flathead V12
GMC "double V6" V12

I'll add one I'd like to see in a rat rod: Detroit Diesel V12

Most Ford flathead V8's only made 70 hp. It's slow for today but it must've been something in the 50's. Also dat torque

i'm thinking it might have been the reversed heads. easier to make 1 card work ( and prettier) then 2 carbs on the sides and the exhaust spagettiing all over the motor

Lincolns were built in fairly small numbers in the '20s, less than 10,000 a year, so those engines aren't exactly laying around everywhere. Also, those cars are fairly valuable, so that doesn't make them attractive hot rod material.

Blastolene (the ones who built Jay Leno's Tank Car) did a GMC twin-six hot rod:
which I saw at AutoFair one year (2008 or 09 maybe?)
and I saw this at AutoFair 1997 or so:
Yes, that's a Lamborghini V12 in a Ford Model T

I think it's wild how those engines always sound like they're in runaway.

When I come to power, two-stroke V12 diesels will become mandatory for all cars.

Ford uses inboard exhaust in their new Powerstroke so they can seat the turbo in the valley of the Vee. Less exhaust path length means lest heat loss so higher exhaust gas velocity, more boost and faster spool up.
Also, no one uses those engines because they are a pain in the ass when you can buy a Small Block Chevy V8 for dirt cheap and make way more horsepower and have tons of parts availability and aftermarket support. That said, I'm in your camp, I love to see unusual swaps in hot rods. There's a great car show every year in PA at the Latimore Valley fairgrounds called the Jalopy Cruise In. It's all dudes dressed like greasers in rat rods, but they do some sick engine swaps - Caddy V8s, early Firepower hemis, Buick Nailheads. Saw a truck powered by a GMC "Double V6" mounted midship between the frame rails where the bed used to be, driving through a Caddy El Dorado trans. I also saw a car with a real Latham plate supercharger. I have pics somewhere, I'll try to find them for you.
